Special Olympics Montgomery County
Special Olympics Montomery County (SOMC) -- an accredited local program of Special Olympics Pennsylvania -- offers year-round sports training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Throughout Montgomery County, more than 1,000 Special Olympics athletes participate in 17 sports. Athletes compete in some 20 local and 10 state-level events, and have the opportunity to compete in international games every two years. Training takes place at more than 20 sites, including Fellowship House in Conshohocken, Limerick Lanes in Limerick, the Variety Club in Worcester, and area high schools such as Abington, Souderton, and North Penn. The entire SOMC program is run through the generous support of volunteers. All funding to support training and competition comes from the generous residents, companies, and foundations of Montgomery County, and all monies donated to SOMC stay within the county. Hundreds of county residents volunteer their time coaching teams, officiating games, organizing events, raising funds, and playing numerous other roles. New volunteers are always welcome! |
